Last Updated: 2025-11-23

Alternavism LLC (“Alternavism,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information about you when you visit alternavism.com, use our related pages, communities, and services (collectively, the “Services”), or otherwise interact with us.

By using the Services, you consent to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not access or use the Services.

1) Scope and who this covers

This Policy applies to visitors, registered users, contributors, community members, and customers located in the United States. Additional disclosures for California residents under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) appear throughout, including the “Notice at Collection,” “Your California Privacy Rights,” and “Do Not Sell or Share” sections. Where required, we also note rights available in other U.S. states.

This Policy does not apply to information processed by third parties you reach through links from our Services (e.g., payment processors, social platforms, Discord). Their policies govern their practices.

2) Notice at Collection (CCPA/CPRA)

We may collect, and in the past 12 months have collected, the following categories of personal information from or about you for the business and commercial purposes listed below. We retain information as described in Section 10 (Data Retention).

Categories of Personal Information (PI) we may collect

  • Identifiers: name, display name/handle, email address, IP address, device identifiers.

  • Customer Records: billing address, limited payment metadata (handled by our payment processor), order history.

  • Commercial Information: records of products or services purchased, considered, or pages viewed.

  • Internet or Network Activity: browsing data, log files, referral URLs, pages visited, timestamps, crash/error reports, cookies and similar technologies.

  • Geolocation Data: approximate location inferred from IP address; we do not collect precise geolocation unless explicitly provided for a feature.

  • Audio/Visual Content: content you upload or share in our community spaces or events.

  • Professional/Academic Info: if you submit it via forms (e.g., contributor applications).

  • Inferences: preferences or interests derived from other PI to personalize content.

  • Sensitive Personal Information (SPI): we do not seek SPI (e.g., government ID number, precise geolocation, account log-in combined with password, biometrics) for ordinary site use. If SPI is ever requested for a specific feature, we will provide a just-in-time notice and use it only as necessary.

Sources of PI

  • Directly from you (forms, emails, community posts).

  • Automatically from your device (cookies, analytics).

  • From service providers and partners (payment, analytics, anti-abuse).

Business and Commercial Purposes

  • Provide, maintain, secure, and improve the Services.

  • Personalize content and remember preferences.

  • Process orders, payments, and customer support requests.

  • Protect against fraud, abuse, security incidents, and illegal activity.

  • Debugging, auditing, and analytics to measure service performance.

  • Marketing and communications consistent with your preferences.

  • Compliance with law and enforcement of our terms.

“Selling” or “Sharing” (CCPA/CPRA definitions)
We do not sell your personal information for money. We may share limited Internet or Network Activity and Inferences with analytics and advertising partners for cross-context behavioral advertising. Under CPRA, that “sharing” gives you the right to opt out. See Section 7 for opt-out methods, including honoring Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals.

3) Children’s privacy

Our Services are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us PI, contact us at privacy@alternavism.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

4) How we use personal information

We use PI to operate the Services, provide customer support, manage accounts and transactions, maintain safety and integrity, conduct research and analytics, personalize your experience, communicate with you about updates, events, or offerings, enforce our terms, comply with legal obligations, and protect the rights, property, and safety of users and the public.

5) How we disclose personal information

We may disclose PI to:

  • Service Providers and Contractors who process data for us under written agreements that limit use to our instructions, such as hosting, analytics, customer support, email delivery, and payment processing.

  • Business Partners where you have asked us to connect or integrate services.

  • Legal and Safety recipients when required by law, court order, government request, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of Alternavism, our users, or others.

  • Corporate Transactions in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality safeguards.

We do not disclose Sensitive Personal Information for purposes other than those permitted by the CPRA (e.g., to provide requested services, ensure security and integrity, prevent fraud, short-term transient use without profiling, and other limited uses allowed by law).

6) Cookies, analytics, and tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate and improve the Services, remember preferences, understand usage, and for limited marketing and measurement. You can manage cookies through your browser settings and, where applicable, our site preferences. Some features may not function properly without certain cookies.

Do Not Track (DNT): We do not respond to DNT signals.
Global Privacy Control (GPC): We recognize and honor GPC signals as an opt-out of “sale” and “sharing” under CPRA for the browser sending the signal.

7) Your privacy choices and rights

Email and marketing

You may opt out of non-essential emails by using the unsubscribe link in those communications or by contacting us.

Cookies and interest-based ads

Adjust browser settings to block or delete cookies. For cross-context behavioral advertising, you may opt out via site links labeled “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” and through GPC signals supported by your browser or extension.

California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents have the following rights, subject to verification and legal exceptions:

  • Right to Know/Access: the categories and specific pieces of PI we collected, the sources, the business or commercial purposes, and the categories of third parties to whom we disclosed PI.

  • Right to Delete: request deletion of PI we collected from you.

  • Right to Correct: request correction of inaccurate PI.

  • Right to Opt Out of Sale/Sharing: opt out of “selling” or “sharing” PI for cross-context behavioral advertising. We provide a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link where applicable and honor GPC.

  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive PI: if we use or disclose SPI beyond permitted purposes, you can direct us to limit such use or disclosure.

  • Right to Non-Discrimination: we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

How to exercise your California rights
Submit a request to privacy@alternavism.com with “California Privacy Request” in the subject line, or use any web form we provide on the site. We will verify your request using information we reasonably require. You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request for you, provided the agent offers proof of authorization and we can verify your identity.

8) Other U.S. state privacy notices

Residents of certain other states (for example Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah) may have rights to access, delete, correct, or opt out of targeted advertising or profiling. We honor applicable state rights. Please contact privacy@alternavism.com to exercise them. We will also strive to honor GPC signals as an opt-out where state law interprets them accordingly.

9) Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect PI against accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorized disclosure, or access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If you believe your account or information has been compromised, contact us immediately.

10) Data retention

We retain PI only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, including providing the Services, complying with legal obligations, resolving disputes, and enforcing agreements. When retention is no longer required, we will delete or de-identify information. Where deletion is not feasible, we will securely store and isolate the information from further processing until deletion is possible.

11) International users

Our Services are operated in the United States. If you access the Services from outside the U.S., you consent to the processing and transfer of your information in and to the U.S., which may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction.

12) Third-party links and communities

Our Services may link to third-party sites or communities, including Discord. Interactions on those services are governed by their privacy policies, not this one. Review their policies before engaging.

13) Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. The “Last Updated” date at the top indicates when changes took effect. Material changes will be posted on this page and, where appropriate, we will provide additional notice.
